For years there have been talks about whether there will be a new record-breaking tower in Dubai after the success of the Burj Khalifa. The development of the Dubai Creek Tower has marked the beginning of breaking the record of the world’s tallest building. Construction commenced in 2016 and completion is scheduled for 2020/2021.
The Dubai Creek Tower is being built in Dubai Creek Harbour. This area is one of the latest additions to Dubai and is a flagship development of the company Emaar Properties. The area will become the new benchmark of luxury as the result of a combination of innovation and outstanding design. Dubai Creek Tower is located on Ras Al Khor Road, which gives access to the main parts of Dubai.
The Dubai Creek Tower will be at least be 928 metres (2,717 ft), which is about 100 meters taller than the Burj Khalifa. The exact height will not be announced by Emaar (the developer of the project) until the official opening. However, the company has stated that it will become the tallest tower in the world when completed, overtaking first place from the Tokyo Skytree. Rumour has it that the eventual height of the Dubai Creek Tower will be around 1.345 m.
The Dubai Creek Tower is a superstructure that comes with groundbreaking design and record-breaking attributes. The building will have a number of observation decks and one of those will host the highest sky garden in the world. From these decks, you will also be able to admire 360-degree views of the Dubai Creek Area. The final design is a product of Spanish-Swiss architect Santiago Calatrava Valls. The tower represents a minaret, a popular structure in Islamic architecture.
The exact number of floors in the Dubai Creek Tower is not yet known but experts say there will be at least 20 floors. The limited number of inhabited floors may also be the reason that the Dubai Creek Tower will not be the official Tallest Tower in the World. According to The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH), a tower has to be at least inhabitable for 50% to apply for the title tallest tower. In the case of the Dubai Creek Tower, this will be around 30%.
In the Dubai Creek Tower, there will be 10 observation decks in an oval shape and a number of sky gardens. Furthermore, there will be hotels, restaurants, and residences. On the peak of the tower will be an antenna that is used for broadcasting.
The Dubai Creek Tower is a joint development of Emaar Properties while the surrounding area is developed in a joint venture with Dubai Holding. Emaar Properties is the largest real estate development company in the UAE and is also responsible for the development of the Burj Khalifa.
