Originally DSO was designed as an area that supports the infrastructure for tech companies. However, over the years the DSO has developed into a multicultural residential area with a wide range of properties available. Silicon Oasis is a freehold area, meaning that it is possible for foreigners to buy real estate here. Apartments come in the form of studios, 1- and 2-bedroom units while the townhouses and villas provide residents with 3-6 bedrooms. Property prices are considered to be affordable and that is why it is a popular place among young professionals that just start their life and career in Dubai. The fact that it is also a thriving start-up area, makes it also an attractive place to set up your own company. Closeby is Academic City and therefore also lots of students flock to the area looking for a place to live.
Public transport is not the most convenient transport option when you live in DSO. Rashidiya, which is the closest metro station to DSO, takes about 20 minutes by bus. There are several other bus lines but the best transport variant when living in DSO is by far the car. Due to its location near Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road (E311) residents have easy access to the main parts of Dubai.
